Johanna Kügerl works in the digital illustration genre. Her drawings depict buildings and entertainment venues in Budapest that are characteristic of the community or architecture. She examines why people are attached to certain urban spaces and how they shape them in their own image – be it pubs, cafes or cinemas. Another important theme for her is our collective memory, the symbolic objects of past decades that we look at with nostalgia. The utensils and scenes of meals, the human connections that are hidden in the details of shared meals, whether it is the broth sent in a mason jar or the messages left in the alphabet pasta, play a central role.
